All in a days work - April 21, 2024

The song says "some days are diamonds, some days are stones."  Not true here in this mission...every day is one of adventure and excitement and interaction with wildly energetic young missionaries who make me smile, laugh, and cry.  There is no "typical" day but rather many fraught with worry and prayer, joy and laughter, and it's anything but routine. We never know what's coming down the pike nor who’s walking into the office on any day.  Here are some examples of our work...

Meeting with real estate agents to scope out new apartments for our young people is a task I quite enjoy.  We want them first of all to be safe, then central to their assigned area, then comfortable, in that order.  I am so angry that two of our young men were robbed this week. They lost only their phones but were threatened with a taser, and it is a dreadfully distressing business.   I am having wicked thoughts about what I want to do to the perp.

These young men were up all night long with their brother who visited the ER and was then admitted for a couple of nights.  When we heard the news of him having a grand mal seizure, my heart immediately turned to his mom across the globe in the US, and Aaron and I retreated in private prayer to plead for our darling young missionary.  He is now well and has returned home thanks to much prayer and priesthood blessings. Trust me, it wasn’t because of superb medical intervention. Ha!
What did you expect? This is Africa!

Scooping up new arrivals from the airport is always a welcome task. Even though Gaborone is our capital city, still it’s not large and doesn’t take long to get across town.

The dumbest question I've ever asked is, "Are you hungry, Elder?"   They will eat literally anything.

Grocery shopping is always a culinary adventure. Imma cook up some warthog for Kasper.

One P-Day, we stumbled upon a gun shop and just had to spend an hour there. 🙄

Signage here can be a real gas.

Where's the Not So OK Furniture Store, I wonder.

This was seen inside a grocery store.

I choose all the time. Constantly choosing.

This is Botswanas driver's ed.  Cones in a field.  I kid you not. Says a lot about why driving here is quite the adventure.

I love our Botswana and our Botswana Mission!
